"Borough Surveyor Coleridge Dingle White ... commissioned sculptor Courtenay Edward Maxwell Pollock RBS (1896-1933) to create a bronze figure of Victory which would stand on top of a column. War Memorial, Newton Abbot
On her Portland stone column pillar, the bronze figure of Freedom holds broken chains. The memorial dates from 1922.
