Ye Old Cider Bar, Newton Abbot
This totally unspoiled gem sells unpretentious wholesome food and the highest quality draught scrumpy. It would almost be worth selling up and moving to Devon to be able to regularly frequent a place like this! See inside at

Geograph South Devon 10th birthday meet, Ye Olde Cider Bar, Newton Abbot
The Cider Bar is at 99 East Street, Newton Abbot. Geographers seated are, right to left, Alan Hunt (Murgatroyd), Derek Harper and Robin Stott. We enjoyed draught perry, hot pasties and non-stop conversation. The busy Cider Bar was the best, if noisiest, place to be on a cold, grey Sunday afternoon.
Some colour correction has been attempted: original was strongly orange.

The story of their business is detailed at http://www.yeosociety.com/biographies/samuelyeoropemaker.htm . Note the "East Street Room adjacent to ... rope walk property for the use of the Exclusive Brethren", a faction that split from the Plymouth Brethren.

The group of limestone almshouses were rebuilt in 1845 in "Picturesque Tudor" style http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-464290-numbers-109-115-and-attached-walls-and-g . A couple of doors down is the locally renowned Olde Cider Bar, originally a farmhouse dated 1745 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-464286-the-olde-cider-bar-99-101-and-103-newton , and in effect composed of three houses with a rear courtyard down a passageway.
