Derelict Rover Motor car, Upper Dean
This overgrown and derelict Rover sits in the corner of a small yard in upper Dean. It is a Rover 2000TC, an elegant and admired car in its day, and its registration suggests it dates from 1973. I wonder whether it is too far gone to be a viable restoration project.

Upper Dean
This is Willow Cottage in Upper Dean, a small and tight collection of cottages near Buckfastleigh. The far cottage of this pair, called Cobble Stone has a magnificent square chimney stack, which can be seen in Image

Cobble Stone Cottage, Upper Dean
Cobble Stone is one of a pair of cottages, Willow Cottage Image being the far end, in Upper Dean. The cottage may well be cob, with a magnificent sturdy stone chimney. It seems as though the wet weather of last summer didn't allow the repainting of the chimney to be finished.

A small change in Upper Dean
More or less the same view as in Jonathan Billinger's Image from 2010 except the pink cottage he makes special mention of has had the render removed and has gone back to the original stone. When locating this picture on the contribution map I noticed that as you zoom in, the village name changes from Upper Dean to Higher Dean.

Dean Prior Parish Hall
This strange shaped (it almost seems to be a cube) corrugated-iron clad building in Upper Dean is the Parish Hall for the elongated and scattered parish of Dean Prior.

Cottages, Upper Dean
The lowering sky above these old cottages highlights the maze of service poles, wires and aerials that are needed in rural areas to connect us to the conveniences of modern life. The cost of putting services underground is often too much for this to be done.

Upper Dean
Looking north-eastwards into the huddled cottages of Upper Dean. The thatched Clapper Cottage Image can be seen on the left, and the distinctive chimney of Cobble Stone Cottage Image can be seen beyond the hedge on the right.

Upper Dean
Or Higher Dean. In the same parish as Dean Prior which is a mile away up the A38, but there must be more buildings here, including these cottages, one of which has an appealing old chimney stack.
