Train arriving at Groombridge
A diesel multiple unit train arriving at Groombridge station, on the line between Tunbridge Wells and Eridge, in April 1985. The railway line closed three months later. Housing has been built over the site of the signal box and railway tracks. The railway line has since been restored as a heritage line. At Groombridge, it diverts slightly to avoid the houses which now stand here. More information about Groombridge station is on the Disused Stations website: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/g/groombridge/index.shtml

Former Groombridge Station
The front view of Image as seen from the road bridge. See http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/stations/g/groombridge/index11.shtml for a view in 1985. The station originally opened in 1866 as part of a link from Tunbridge Wells to Eastbourne and survived the Beeching cuts which saw the Cuckoo Line close. However, underinvestment throughout the 1970s led to British Rail deciding to close it in 1982 with the last train running in 1985. The new housing extends over the former goods yard and what was once an island platform necessitating a slight realignment of the track around the houses.

Groombridge Railway Station
This photo is taken just after closure in the mid 1980s. The track has now been taken over by the Spa Valley heritage railway, though their station is behind the photo. The station building remains and was being used for offices in 2008.
