An ivy bee on ivy flowers, Amherst Road
The ivy bee (Colletes hederae) was only described as new to science in 1993 and is thought to have evolved quite recently. It was first recorded from the British mainland in 2001 and has spread rapidly since then. It is almost always found on ivy flowers and is very late flying for a solitary bee.
