Lodge by the gates of Eastwell Park: gable detail
Detail of a rather handsome Victorian Lodge, just inside the gates of Eastwell Park. The wording on the scroll is 'Nil conscire sibi' - which strikes me as an odd motto, since it must mean something like 'Let nothing weigh on your conscience'.
It looks as if the first-floor room beneath the gable must be a bathroom. A number of windows have been double-glazed in the same style, with wide framing, rather spoiling the front elevation.

This extravagant entrance to Eastwell Park was built in 1848. Through the arches, a track over a mile long leads to Eastwell Manor, which is now a hotel and golf club.
