Sir John was son of Sir Norton Knatchbull Image He had 3 sons and 9 daughters, and died in 1696 aged 60. His wife Jane is also interred here.

St John the Baptist Church, Mersham
Grade I listed. Originally Saxon, built on by Normans in about 1100. Rebuilt second half of fourteenth century to what one sees today. There is an unusual west window of circa 1396.
