Site of Ashford town centre Sainsbury's in 1985
This was taken from the multi-storey carpark looking over the weed infested site of the proposed Sainsbury's supermarket (which later became Wilkinsons). Beyond the Sainsbury's site is the tank, in Castle Street, before it was protected from the elements by being partly enclosed.

British Mark IV Tank, Ashford, Kent
Dating from 1917, and presented to the people of Ashford on 1st August 1919. Weight: 26 tons Length: 26' 5" Width: 10' 6" Height: 8' 10" Road speed 4 m.p.h., with the petrol capacity of 70 gallons giving an operational range of 35 miles. This 'female' version of the tank was armed with five 308 Lewis machine guns. Crew of eight: Commander, Driver, two Gearsmen, four Gunners.

Preserved tank, Ashford
At the end of the First World War several towns were presented with tanks. Ashford's is one of the few that remains on display. It is a Mark IV tank of 1916.
