Hoppers' huts near Ightham Mote
The National Trust explains that these are early self-catering holiday accommodation and were for families from London down for the hop-picking season in September. They are next to the footpath leading away from Mote Road, opposite Scatheswood House. The information board gives more detail - see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6592102 On the information board it says that the census of 31st March 1901 recorded that "Tramps slept in the Mote Farm Hopper Huts." It explains that these 'tramps' were actually farm workers who travelled around the country working on farms and included husbands and wives. Of the 14 people staying in the huts, eight were husband and wife and two were children.
