Scarecrows at Coolings Green & Pleasant
Coolings Green & Pleasant is a garden centre at Knockholt which, unusually for a garden centre, includes a six acre nature reserve at the back with wallabies and farm animals. A small charge is made to go round the nature reserve and it is especially popular in school holidays. These scarecrows have a rhyme attached to the fence to explain to children how they come out to play with the farm animals at night.

Human sundial at Coolings Green & Pleasant
Coolings Green & Pleasant is a garden centre at Knockholt which, unusually for a garden centre, includes a six acre nature reserve at the back with wallabies and farm animals. The nature reserve is free to go round and is especially popular in school holidays.
Within the nature reserve is this human sundial. It uses a person's own shadow to tell the correct 'clock' time (GMT and BST) all year round. It is tailor made for its own latitude and longitude. The two rings of hour markers ensure that the sundial layout does not need to change when the clocks go forward or back. On this side of the fence are twelve month markers so that the person stands on the correct month and knowing whether it is GMT or BST you check where your shadow is on the back or front markers respectively, beyond the fence.
