Seen on an outhouse. "on this site Sept 5 1782 nothing happened" The 5th of September 1782 was the date of a naval encounter between two French Frigates and HMS Hector off the coast of the USA. The Hector sunk a few days later in a hurricane.

The Church of St Chad - the outdoor font
12th or 13th century, according to the church guide. Which also says it is still in use today. This is the original font, and was moved out to make room for the Cotton Monument (Image)

The Church of St Chad - external arch
There is a small niche above the arch which contains a figure of St Chad dressed as a bishop. I wholly failed to photograph it separately. This arch, and the North Transept date from 1872

Village green & church of St. Chad
The large stone next to the sign post (known as The Bradling Stone) is an erratic, thought to have been a glacial deposit. The church is mainly a sham, although the tower is Norman in origin the rest of the building is pure Victorian - built between 1864-72. Even the thick wooden 'Norman' door in the tower is a copy.
