A gap in the fence
The wooden fencing seen in Image is not continuous. The new estate road breaks through into the footpath to give access to the homes there. These homes were built in the last couple of years - they do not appear on all current mapping.

Sign near footpath
Seen on an outhouse. "on this site Sept 5 1782 nothing happened" The 5th of September 1782 was the date of a naval encounter between two French Frigates and HMS Hector off the coast of the USA. The Hector sunk a few days later in a hurricane.
