Cartlidge House, Hartshill Road, Oakengates
This residential Old People's Home was built in 1975 and dedicated to The Rev Cartlidge, the local parish priest. He was a driving force behind the international volunteer labour scheme that, in the late nineteen-thirties, cleared the enormous slag heap, The Charlton Mound, that was on this site.

Bandstand, Hartshill Park
The bandstand at Hartshill Park, Oakengates. Plain but functional. Who needs fancy ornamentation? Hartshill Park was set out in the 1920s by the local miner's welfare organisation, the main gates are dedicated as the Oakengates War Memorial.Image
