Ashy Mining Bee on pyracanthus flowers
Taken in the back garden on a sunny May afternoon. The Ashy Mining Bee (Andrena cineraria) is one of the country's solitary bees, not uncommon across England and Wales, but maybe not often noticed. They are ground nesters, making a small excavation in the bare soil with a 'spoil heap' around the entrance, and feed on a variety of both wild and garden spring flowers.

Bumblebee on pyracanthus flowers
This one, as far as I can make out, is probably a Buff-tailed worker bee, or a White-tailed worker. If anyone is able to give a more definitive identification, please get in touch.

No, find your own now...!

One hairy beastie
The caterpillar of a Pale Tussock moth (Calliteara pudibunda) which fell out of a garden tree that I was pruning. What looks like horns on the left are actually on the rear end of the animal. The moth Image is fairly common across much of the country, but the caterpillars were a bit of a nuisance to hop pickers in the southeast of England at one time as their hairs can be irritant.

Unnamed single-storey building on the north side of the A4169, Shifnal
This looks like a hall. In November 2015 there was no name here to indicate the building's usage if any. Update. I am grateful to Richard Law who told me that the building dating from the mid 1970s was originally the local youth club. It is still known as that, although it's more often used for kids' parties, the occasional music performance and keep-fit/yoga/Pilates etc.
