Burlington Pool
Just before the rain came, the light was almost good enough to make cloudscapes and reflections in Burlington Pool. New fishing platforms have recently been constructed around the edge of this lake.

The Burlington milestone in its setting
With the recent removal of a hedge along the roadside, this milestone near Pickmere Island has emerged from obscurity.

The Burlington milestone - detail
It's hard to read, even 'in the flesh', so to speak, but the lettering reads Salop and an indeterminate number of miles. The numerals have gone.

Oops! That's not improved it one little bit
Sadly, the milestone recorded beside the A5 by Keith Image and myself Image has taken a bit of a battering by passing traffic or possibly hedge-cutting operations quite recently. Hopefully it'll be possible to effect a reasonable repair, as the missing chunk was to be found lying in the adjacent verge, and is largely intact.

Remains of OS rivet and arrow mark
Before the top of the milestone was unceremoniously detached by (we assume) an errant driver Image, it included an OS rivet and arrow mark, the remains of which are seen here after I plonked the broken piece of the milestone back on top of the base. Hopefully the car suffered at least as much damage as this historic stone has undergone, and the driver will be a good bit more cautious approaching the Pickmere island in future.
