Ruberslaw Parish Church
This church (1844) is on the northeast side of the village green. The southwest facing clock face is dated 1885 and a stone tablet above the entrance door is inscribed:- FREE CHURCH MDCCCXLIV

A plaque in a Millennium garden, Denholm
The plaque forms the centrepiece of a circular paving in a small Millennium garden on the northwest side of the parish church at Kirkside. The inscription on the plaque reads:- BELOW THIS PLAQUE IS A CAPSULE CONTAINING ITEMS ILLUSTRATIVE OF THE LIFE OF DENHOLM IN THE MILLENNIUM YEAR 2000 WHICH MAY BE OF INTEREST TO POSTERITY 24TH JUNE 2000

Cottages in Denholm
The thatched cottage in the photo was the birthplace in 1775 of Dr John Leyden, son of a shepherd. At the age of 15, John Leyden enrolled at Edinburgh University, eventually qualifying both as a doctor and as a minister. He was an associate of Sir Walter Scott and a poet in his own right, and became an expert in oriental languages before his early death, at the age of 36, in Java.
