Old curling pond near Hawick
The information board explains that this was the site of the old Hawick Curling Club pond opened in 1866, but abandoned in 1890 when a new pond was opened at Crowbyres, below Hardie's Hill. The pond remained in use for skating and ice hockey up to the 1960s.
Two trees here, a Norway Spruce (out of shot L) and the rowan in view, were planted in 1937 by Tom and Annie Jolly who lived in a nearby cottage and provided teas for the local skaters.
