Medieval drainage system.
The drains near the Commendator's House at Melrose Abbey are believed to be up to 1,000 years old.

The Commendator's House at Melrose Abbey
This old house is thought to have replaced a medieval structure and was still in use at the time of the Scottish Reformation. The house is now used as the Abbey's museum. The Commendator was an elected Abbot. The house we see today was built in the late 14th - early 15th century.
