The remains of St John's Lodge in Newstead
This is the site of the original Lodge of Melrose St John No 1 at the end of St John’s Wynd in Newstead. A small fragment of the original building survives with a plaque inlaid into the remains, inscribed:-

The Lodge moved to hired rooms at Melrose in 1743 and moved again in 1791 to premises in High Street, Melrose Image The Lodge of Melrose St John No 1 is reputed to be one of the oldest Masonic Lodges in Scotland.
