Newtown St. Boswells, Scottish Borders
The most inaptly named village in the Borders. It is indeed, a very old settlement but the 'new' signifies it is not as old as neighbouring St. Boswells. The Borders Council's Headquarters are based here.

A George V post box at Newtown St Boswells
The post box is located outside this empty shop in Tweedside Road Image A Lyons Maid advertising panel is to the right, almost obscured by blue paint. I remember as a young boy tucking into Lyons Maid ice cream and iced lollies. For a trip down memory lane, see http://www.kzwp.com/lyons/group2.htm

Tweedside Road, Newtown St Boswells
One of the older parts of "New"town St Boswells. Tweedside Road runs from the main street towards the River Tweed, but stops 500 metres short of the river! (See Image). Two long-distance walking trails follow this road - St Cuthbert's Way and the Borders Abbeys Way.

A corner of Newtown St Boswells
Despite its name, Newtown St Boswells is a large village of considerable antiquity - dating back to at least the 16th century. This is the valley of the Bowden Burn, the southern of two burns which cross the main street of the village in deep valleys. The upper road is Tweedside Road which actually terminates a full 500 metres from the River Tweed.
