Drinking fountain
This Gothic, gableted and pinnacled well-head is at the corner of Jean Lawrie Court in St Boswells. It was erected by the eighth Lord Polwarth in the 1870s to celebrate the first piped water supply to the village. (Source: Pevsner Architectural Guide, The Buildings of Scotland - Borders). The inscription on the well reads: JESUS SAID WHOSOEVER DRINKETH OF THIS WATER SHALL THIRST AGAIN, BUT WHOSOEVER DRINKETH OF THE WATER THAT I SHALL GIVE HIM SHALL NEVER THIRST.
