Morebattle Church "Glory to God in the highest"
The interior looking west towards the chancel. There has been a church at Morebattle since before 1116 when David, Prince of Cumbria (future king) granted the lands of Merboda, as Morebattle was then known, to Glasgow Cathedral. There is belief, the church was not the first place of worship in the parish, that honour goes to a chapel which was established by St. Cuthbert of Lindisfarne on lands which were granted, in the 7th. century, by Oswin, King of Northumberland.
