A1 at Plough Hotel near Beal
The refuge in the centre of the road has been recently installed to allow cyclists following National Cycle Network route 1 to cross the busy A1 in relative safety

The Lindisfarne Inn at Beal in Northumberland
I believe this was once the Plough Hotel. In bygone days this was a popular coaching inn and, until relatively recently still had stables. Another common name for the inn was the 'halfway house' being approximately halfway between Edinburgh and Newcastle. Information kindly given by Mr. Simon Goldsmith whose step father was once the landlord.
