Entrance to Shoe Lane
Shoe Lane is a pedestrian link from Bridge Street to "The Maltings" (Theatre and Arts Centre, also the venue for the local Farmers' Market) and the town centre. There was a shoe-factory here, with a retail outlet. A piece of the original machinery is on display in the Lane Image Sallyport Gallery is named after the lane on the opposite side of the street Image

"The Curfew" public house
On Bridge Street, the northernmost micropub in the United Kingdom, dispensing four real ales on draught. The Micropub Association defines a Micropub as "a small freehouse which listens to its customers, mainly serves cask ales, promotes conversation, shuns all forms of electronic entertainment and dabbles in traditional pub snacks".
