Old milestone
This stone was rescued during roadworks in the 1980s from its site about ½ mile to the south. It is facing onto the A7 in the garden of 3 Bow Farm Cottages. Two holes signify that it once had an oval plate with the legend now painted in the style of the plate. There is a bench mark at the top front and all the faces except the back have horizontal broaching. It would have been set up by the Lasswade District Turnpike Trust.

A bridge on the dismantled Waverley Railway Line
This is the southwest parapet of a double cross-lattice bridge over the Gala Water just before the north portal of Bowshank Tunnel. The line was closed in 1969 but work is underway to reinstate the route as a single track line between Edinburgh and Tweedbank (the Borders Railway) with a projected completion date of December 2014. Some bridges have gone and will have to be replaced while others have decayed since the line was closed in 1969 and will require major repair work or replacement.
