The Black Path and advance railway works, Langlee
The Black Path is the tarmaced path and cycleway on the former Waverley Line. This is now to be reinstated as the Borders Railway to Tweedbank, so the path will need to be re-routed. The archway is a warning to contractors of the footbridge just behind the photographer in this view.

Waverley Line Steam Special
In September & October 2015, on the re-opening of the Waverley line between Edinburgh and Tweedbank, 3 steam specials per week were operated, all of them fully booked well in advance. This train is approaching Galashiels on the return journey to Edinburgh. Locomotive 60009, Union of South Africa, pulls the trains on the outward journey. As there are no turning facilities at Tweedbank, the return trip is hauled by a vintage diesel locomotive.

Langlee Housing Estate
Viewed from near the spot where in 1832 Sir Walter Scott "sprang up with a cry of delight" - see Image This scheme was built in the 1950s on the south side of Melrose Road while the scheme on the opposite side of the road was built in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Both schemes comprise about 1200 houses. A recent housing scheme by Melrose Golf Course can be seen at the foot of Eildon Mid Hill in the distance. Unfortunately the white wall finish stands out in the landscape.
