The former Glasite Church in Galashiels
This building in Botany Lane was erected in 1842 for followers of Pastor John Glas, but is now used as a builder's store. The Glasite church was first located in Darnick near Melrose, but moved to the Old Town in Galashiels in 1775, and then to Botany Lane in 1842. The chapel was also known as the 'Kail Kirk', as services sometimes lasted most of the day and the food provided for the worshippers was often kail soup. (Source: Galashiels Town Trail Guide).
