Two signs of neglect
Not only has the glass been vandalised but the large clumps of moss suggest this bus shelter is not maintained much.

Stacks of pallets
A part of the Walrow Industrial Estate is home to a pallet firm. The location right next to the M5 is an obvious advantage.

A reminder of the works
Some railway hardware on show at the roundabout is a nod to the past. Beyond is the Walrow Industrial Estate - which occupies the site of the S. & D. Joint Railway Locomotive, Carriage and Wagon works. The iron hasn't changed much but the vegetation is thiriving.

Highbridge Loco Shed
LMS-type Ivatt 2MT 2-6-2T No. 41290 (built 12/51, withdrawn 3/66) awaits its next journey along the branch to Evercreech Junc. Surprisingly for almost 70 years Highbridge was a 'railway town' - although not on the scale of Swindon or Crewe! This was because in 1862 the locomotive & carriage workshops of the newly formed Somerset & Dorset were established in the town. Over the years they developed into a comprehensive facility capable of locomotive repair & rebuilding, & carriage & wagon building & repair. 3 small tank locos were also built at Highbridge, one in 1885 & two more in 1895. This state of affairs couldn't last of course & the workshops closed in 1930 & the work transferred to the main workshops of the owning companies - the LMS for locomotives & the SR for coaches. The buildings remained derelict for many years but now the site has been redeveloped as the Walrow Industrial Estate.
