Railway, 19 College Street, Burnham-on-Sea
Apparently with a door on High Street, the pub addresses itself as College Street where the door seems to have been replaced with a window. It was previously known as Liley's Railway Hotel. The railway line to Burnham opened to passengers on 3rd May 1858 and the hotel probably opened soon after, possibly the first building on a plot of land known as 'Barley Pen'. Between the wars, Charles and Emily J Ridd ran the pub and neighbouring off-licence 'The Wine Shop'. A search of my directories found; 1889 John Hallett, Railway Hotel; 1897-1902 Ernest John Emery, Railway Hotel; 1914 William Kendrick, Railway Hotel; 1919 Miss Emily Roberts, Railway Hotel (Mrs Emily Ridd?).
