The Plough Inn, Holford
Standing beside the A39 is this large inn. The Plough has a long history and is believed to be haunted by a wealthy Spanish gentleman of the 16th century

Sign for the Plough Inn
This name and sign has very obvious agricultural meanings and relationships. It is a very old sign, originally found on pubs in farming areas. Sometimes the Plough sign will show the constellation Ursa Major. In the middle ages, ploughs were blessed shortly after Christmas and a decorated plough was used to raise plough-money to make a special plough-ale.
