Twentieth century water tower
Rockwell Green needed another water tower and this one was built in 1934-5. It stands next to the original tower of 1885; another brick water tower was built in Dark Lane in 1896 that held 40,000 gallons but that is now converted.
This third tower served until 2010 and were auctioned off as a new water system was brought in. An owner took over both towers but has been reluctant to maintain them. A recent council order has forced the site to be cleared of lots of undergrowth and invasive vegetation.

The lane at the back of the water towers
Since the expansion of Rockwell Green, the houses of old and new now have a grass lane between them, leading to the two towers.

Supporting the tank
Rockwell Green's youngest water tower was built in 1934-5 by Rolfe and Raffety. The open structure features a set of concrete legs and supports, balancing the water tank that occupies a larger space on top of the central tower. It was taken out of service by 2013.
