Shepton Beauchamps Fives Wall
These large isolated Fives walls were built usually by public houses to be used for the ball game known as Fiveswhich had originally been played on the walls on churches. The game was presumably very popular in the 17th C and there is much documentary evidence of church authorities attempting to prevent churches being used for the game around 1650. The front of the wall facing the camera is smooth, the back is rough stone. About half a dozen five walls still exist. More details can be seen here Image
