Former tannery, Tancred Street, Taunton
The older buildings on the left are the remains of the tannery of Edmond & William Charles French who took over existing premises in 1891. The site was still working in the 1980s and housed a part dismantled beam engine that is now with a private collector -
Image I'm sure the neighbours don't miss it as tanneries tend to be smelly places.

Pearsalls Sutures seen from Tancred Street.
This was originally a lace factory erected in 1825. George Rawlinson from Leicester began silk processing by 1835 and synthetic twine for net making was introduced after 1945. The site now concentrates on surgical sutures. This site donated a beam engine to Somerset County Museum based in the Castle nearby.

E & W C French Ltd, tannery, steam engine.
This works was on Tancred Street and contained this partly dismantled single cylinder 4-column beam engine by Bury, Curtis & Kennedy of Liverpool and possibly c1840s. It is believed to have been out of use since about 1947 and was removed to Poldark Mine, Wendron in 1986. It is now in store, part erected in Somerset.

I was taken by the faded lettering above the first-floor windows, which reads "English and Foreign Corn Warehouse".
