Brockton Mill
This former watermill lacks a wheel and a pond but still retains the hurst frame and gearing for three stones on the first floor. The wheel was to the left of the buttress and was probably overshot. It was open as part of National Mills Weekend 2012.

Brockton Watermill - the wheel shaft
Although the wheel is long gone, the cast iron shaft still survives. Seen as part of National Mills weekend 2012.

Brockton Mill - stone floor
Three sets of stones, the main shaft and the crown wheel. The nearest stones are definitely French burr with a plaster of paris backing. The trap doors for the sack hoist are also clearly seen.

Brockton Mill - gearing
Although the mill lacks a wheel and pond, it does retain this fine hurst framing with a great spur wheel drive to three sets of stones. One stone nut is seen here and is jacked out of engagement. The pit wheel, wallower and great spur wheel can be seen. This is the only real view of the ground floor mechanism that can be achieved. The pit wheel and wallower are metal teeth to metal teeth but the great spur wheels and stone nuts are , surprisingly, wooden teeth to wooden teeth.

Part of Brockton, Shropshire
This is typical rural Shropshire. Barns, cottages, a stream and footbridge, a woodpile, a path trodden by locals only. There are three villages in Shropshire called Brockton. Which just about sums this great county up.
