Scene in Brockton
Brockton village with the Brockton Brook. Interestingly there are three Brocktons in Shropshire; one near Bridgnorth, one near Bishop's Castle and this one, near Worthen. They have no differentiation between their names, such as 'Brockton-in-Corvedale' and I have never heard anyone comment on this confusing arrangement. If someone says "I am from Brockton" I would have no idea which one, and would have to ask, presumably to be told that the Brockton-ite in question has no awareness of the 'other' villages. I like this and it seems to reflect my experience of Shropshire quite neatly. I wonder how common this place name is and whether there are any preponderances of other Brocktons in yet more counties?
