The Welsh Bridge, Shrewsbury
Taken from close to the bridge on Smithfield Road, looking north-west. At http://www.photosofshropshire.co.uk/ViewImage.aspx?ImageID=358 you can see this location on the Severn River in full flood in February 1946, taken from almost the same camera position. Although some of the buildings in the background have changed slightly, there is no mistaking their principal features.

Bossy wee notice, Welsh Bridge
"Commit no nuisance", an eleventh commandment engraved on the town side of the Welsh Bridge. Hectoring notices everywhere are obviously not a new nuisance.

Janette Peacey has contacted me to say that this is a euphemism for public urination.
