Shrewsbury station
Looking south from the extreme southern end of the platform, we see several items of interest. The semaphore arms are out of use but not yet dismantled; their replacement colour signals are already in use. The very large signal box, only partly in use, will probably be completely superseded before long. Further away is Shrewsbury Abbey, near to which was once the small independent station of the Shropshire & Montgomeryshire Railway, which was operated by the military during WWII: one engineer of note working there was the well-known author and railway preservationist Tom Rolt.
