44 - 49 (odds) Underdale Road, Shrewsbury
Only mildly impressive from the other side on Underdale Road. From this side, although the architecture is perhaps less pretty, the location is splendid.

River Severn access steps, Sydney Avenue, Shrewsbury
The choppy water has been created by the Severn tumbling down this weir. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4548421

Salmon fisherman at the weir in Shrewsbury with his landed Salmon
The man retrieved his catch from the landing net and stood to eye up the mighty fish, its gleaming sides a shocking white, topped with silver and black dots - a mighty Severn Salmon! The wild tamed for a few seconds... Two worlds collide; the fish must have looked about at us, its mind reeling and its body in crisis in this alien world, maybe it comprehended us amid the torture, despair and extreme fatigue and looked down at the waters which a few minutes earlier it swam as apex predator... Now it was caught and reduced to a potential food item, a prey item itself. What an inversion.

River Severn canoe disembark & embark point notice, Shrewsbury
Alongside Sidney Avenue, downstream from this weir. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4548421 The upper notice shows "Priority area for salmon fishing. Boat users should gain access to the river by use of the steps and proceed downstream". The weir makes proceeding upstream from this point impossible!

Shrewsbury Up
The concrete ledge 50m downstream from the up-weir that you can hit as part of a line, with plenty of space for a flats trick between the ledge and the weir. Even though it’s in the middle of the city, the bust factor is low. We had no complaints and at one point 40+ people watching & taking photos. Great place to tie the winch to and good landing, but stay away from the side as there is a mean tree under the water that Terry has the scars to verify. Also keep your mouth closed, the water looks clean but Liam and Ollie were sick the next day. Right next to a car park, another perfect spot. This is a BIG up-weir with a long flat section you have to ollie on at the bottom, before riding up the wall to a 2-metre step-up gap at the top.

Fishermen below the weir, Shrewsbury
The river here at the moment is full of baby fish. Throw a bit of bread in and shortly it will be swamped. These two are after bigger fish.

Angler at the weir in Shrewsbury
At first I thought that this chap had his rod or tackle caught in an underwater obstruction, like a dead tree, but then I twigged he had a fish on... his rod tip bent more and he wound in and dashed about a bit and soon a large silver fish broke the surface waters... he was landing a mighty Severn Salmon!

Salmon fisherman at the weir in Shrewsbury
The silvery white flank of a Salmon breaks the surface here and the angler focuses all his energy on keeping the fish on his hook and preparing to grab his landing net....
