Scene beside the towpath of the Montgomery Canal in Refail
The homeowner here is flying the Union Flag on a flagpole at their boundary, right next to the canal towpath. I always wonder why some people do this....Do they wish to remind us of our own country? Do they wish to instil patriotism in the hearts of passing walkers? Is it to display their OWN patriotism? Is it because they served our nation in a branch of the armed forces, and are therefore used to saluting or acknowledging the flag daily over many years? Are they tattooed, lager-swilling Sun readers? Rampant nationalists? Are they concerned about how their actions may be interpreted by their neighbours, passers-by or visitors from other nations? Some of the greatest servants of this nation, some of the longest serving soldiers etc and some of the most patriotic individuals that I know feel no need whatsoever to make a display of this sort. A faded, slightly weathered, cheap-looking Union Jack hanging limply on a metal pole beside a canal seems a fitting epithet for where Britain is in 2019 some might say!

Looks like a village hall maybe, a Scout hut maybe and a chapel. Interesting mix.

Part of the A483 near Berriew
A large sign protesting about the pylons plans sits next to this busy road. Good sign - well executed. Appeals to the emotions.
