Caer Noddfa
There is little to be seen of this earthwork on the ground (and not much more from the air). It is thought to be the site of a Roman fort and was excavated in 1909. The Knights Hospitaller established a grange here in the late 13th century which became a place of sanctuary in the Middle Ages. Noddfa means sanctuary. The hill in the background is Pen y Pigyns.

The Spar convenience store in Carno
The Spar shop is the only commercial premises open in Carno today, a Monday. The Merchant of Aleppo pub / eatery may well be open but I have walked away from that, so didn't snap it and investigate...Hopefully it is doing well. It always looks inviting. The rest of the village looks unloved and a little more than just down at heel. The Spar here seems busy - a few cars coming and going whilst I passed - so at least locals are able to get things locally. The only other activity was at the bus stop, where a few older passengers waited with one younger one for the next bus.

A sign indicates that this was a Free House. I don't know its status currently. Interesting.
