Hillside path
Looking back into the teeth of a squall. I am trudging in full waterproofs, but I am warm, dry and windproof. My car beckons. And I can swap walking boots for trainers. I enjoy all weathers. We are often pretty insulated from the basic elements these days. How often do we get a proper soaking or are out in the weather all day? Not often. And if we are we have the correct attire. Our distant ancestors did not have breathable waterproof fabrics, wicking base layers, down-lined gloves and gore-tex boots. And they were not out here for sport or leisure, but for hard work, following a plough, checking on a flock or droving stock. I count my blessings and soon head for home and even more layers of insulation from harsh realities.

I am nearing the completion of my route. The little village looks welcoming after a challenging walk around the surrounding countryside, via its neighbours Brooks and Bettws Cedewain.
