Horned black and white cattle
The black and white cattle of western Europe (Friesian / Holstein) are not naturally polled (hornless) and they are normally disbudded at 7-10 days old using potassium hydroxide or a hot disbudding iron. If this is not carried out the horns grow as in this steer. The reason horns are removed is to avoid injuries to other animals and possibly humans. http://www.thecattlesite.com/breeds/dairy/22/holstein http://www.thecattlesite.com/breeds/dairy/24/friesian
