Willeymoor Lock Tavern north-east of Grindley Brook, Cheshire
A privately operated public house now trades from the former lock keeper's premises. Generally recommended, but look carefully at the website (and around) for details of the strictly adhered to hours!! Don't dare put your car in their car park and go for a walk (unless you have asked first and booked your meal). Any perceived unwarranted criticism left online will be responded to with a sharp and detailed riposte, which does the management no favours even if understandable.
Well kept ale ... the place is infested with teapots! ;-)
Whatever it says on their website, there IS public footpath access to cross the lock and to the towpath from fields on both sides of the canal.

Willey Moor Lock north of Whitchurch but in Cheshire
The lock is on the Llangollen Canal and the pub is one of the most convenient gongoozling venues around! The lock raises (or lowers) the water by six feet (about 1.8 metres).

Willeymoor Lock Tavern
This is one of a handful of locations around the canal network where there is a pub immediately adjacent to a lock and where the lockside is effectively the pub garden. The Willeymoor Lock Tavern, once the lock keeper's cottage, is a popular stop for boaters on the busy Llangollen Canal.

The Willeymoor Lock Tavern
Unfortunately for such a busy canal, the Llangollen does not have many true canalside pubs. This one, however, occupying the lock cottage, could hardly be closer. Unfortunately, it was closed in this Sunday afternoon view.
