Old water pillar in Shrewsbury
Alongside the A5191 St Michael's Street. When mains water was first available in this area, it was some time before each house was connected. In the interim, water pillars such as this one, using pressurised mains water, replaced old hand-operated water pumps. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4742814 to a closer view.
UPDATE
A correspondent has stated that the water pillar is no longer here -
it was removed at some time in 2020 or 2021.
