Shrewsbury Market Hall by night
Like many provincial market towns, Shrewsbury had a market hall in its town square. This one dates from 1597. The Christmas decorations were already in place, but not yet illuminated, by mid-November. See Image for a daytime view from the other end.

Detail of the Old Market Hall
Old Market Hall was built in 1596 for the Drapers Guild. The Drapers were rich influential merchants trading in woollen cloth from Wales. In this period they more or less ran the town. The Old Market Hall was built as their place of business. There raised above the noise and bustle of the market place they could buy and sell. This http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3613950 shows the building.
