Former Church of St Nicholas, Castle Street, Shrewsbury
This Presbyterian Church has now been converted to offices. It was built in 1870 of limestone, in the Romanesque style with a high and short nave and lean-to aisles. Pensner describes the style as 'atrocious neo-Norman', but it does at least have character. It replaced the Chapel of St Nicholas in the outer bailey of the castle.

Library and Museum, Castle Street, Shrewsbury
This was Shrewsbury School, founded in 1552. The building dates from the 1590s and 1630 (the latter being the part seen in this photo). Above the columns on each side of the doorway are two figures, named in Greek letters Philomathon and Polymathon - he that wants to know and he who knows much. The statue in the garden is of Charles Darwin, who was a pupil at the school, made in 1897 by H Montford.

Woolworths, Shrewsbury
Still empty 22 July 2009, but the grapevine says that the H & M fashion chain is taking over soon. Littlewoods used to have a good store next door but when they folded, some time ago, Marks & Spencer expanded into the building.
