Penybontfawr Church
This church is dedicated to St Thomas and dates from 1855. A notice on the gate announced 'Good news: the Bishop has given his permission for us to restart our services with effect from the start of September'. It would appear that regular services had been suspended in several churches in the area at the beginning of the year because of their small congregations. Evidently this church has been given a reprieve at least for the time being.

Shop and post office, Penybontfawr
Although Penybontfawr is only small, it is a centre for a large rural area and supports a number of facilities including this shop and post office. The name 'Eirianfa', incidentally, is made up of an old Welsh word for beautiful coupled with 'fa', short for 'fan' meaning place.
