Spitfire on Reginald Mitchell Way
R.J. Mitchell, the designer of the famous Spitfire WWII fighter plane, was born about 2 miles from here in Butt Lane. The A527 from Sandyford to the A500 is named "Reginald Mitchell Way" to commemorate one of the few famous men from Stoke-on-Trent who was not involved with the pottery industry.

R J Mitchell Memorial
R J Mitchell , the designer of the Spitfire , was born not far away in Butt Lane , Talke , Staffs.The memorial depicts another of his designs the Supermarine Sea Lion Mk 2 flying boat.
