The Furlong Mills Co Ltd, Furlong lane, Burslem
Calciners and millers for the pottery industry. The two kilns are for calcination rather than the firing of pots and I believe they were in use when the picture was taken and are only relatively recently out of use. The works is not really a pottery as it supplies material for the potteries.

Burslem bypass triptych
This sculpture by John McKenna was commissioned by Staffordshire County Council. Glazed brick relief, 9m wide by 4.5m high, depicting the historical industrial occupations of Burslem.

New Inn + bottle oven
The oven is at A G Hackney's Fountain Place Works and is photographed from Fountain Place. A modern picture Image appears not to include the oven I would be grateful for news of its continued survival. In 1988 the Potteries Heritage society published a list of the 46 surviving bottle ovens. I wonder what the number is nearly 20 years later.

Swan Square, Burslem - in the Arnold Bennett novels this area was called 'Duck Square' The Lloyds TSB building (now -2006 - a betting shop) originally Taylors and Lloyds, the founding partners of Lloyds Bank To the left is The Swan - public house.
