Old Milepost by the A5182, Trentham Road, Whitmore Parish
Cast iron post by the A5182, in parish of WHITMORE (NEWCASTLE UNDER LYME District), Trentham Road, Hanchurch/Butterton crossroads, on the verge, on South side of road. Lathe iron casting, erected by the County Council in the 19th/20th century. Inscription reads:- : WHITMORE 2¼ / MARKET - / DRAYTON 12 : : HANCHURCH : : TRENTHAM 2 / LONGTON 5¾ / STONE 7 / STAFFORD / 14 : Maker:- : Chas. Lathe, Tipton. : Grade II listed. Butterton Grange Farmhouse
Pevsner states ('Staffordshire' p.92): "A square red-brick farmhouse, by the great Soane himself, and as idiosyncratic as any of his late buildings. The date here is 1816-17."
